关于国际教师学术交流活动的通知
  

    美国夏威夷亚太教育交流中心在2005年7月初,又将组织以 “The 3R’s of Social Studies”为题的国际教师学术交流活动。这次参加的对象是文科教师。由于我校与美国夏威夷普那瑚学校的多年协作关系,我校教师又可享用一个奖学金名额。谁想继英语教师曹薇、物理教师万立荣之后赴美参加国际学术交流活动,请与校办联系。

K-12 Asia-Pacific Educational Exchange Center at the Wo International Center, Punahou School, Honolulu, Hawaii now presents another Summer Teacher Institute between July 5 and July 15, 2005.The topic of the institute is “The 3R’s of Social Studies at Punahou School: Roots, Rights & Reflection”
What will this Summer Teacher Institute offer?
 Enjoy the opportunity to acquire in-depth knowledge on theory, methodology and relevant research from American scholars and practitioners in the field;
 Engage in professional dialogue with peers which offers careful reflection of personal teaching experience and best practices from other countries;
 Work with mentors who will collaboratively help you develop strategies to meet the social studies needs of your local schools;
 Be a part of an international networking community for follow-up and for sustaining the learning, thereby yielding positive, long-term effects in your classroom;
 Participate in workshops by fellow teachers and scholars on exemplary model programs with visits to local Hawaii schools;
 Interact with Punahou classes, students and teachers;
 Create opportunities for yourself, your classes and schools for global collaboration and joint projects;
 Enjoy cultural and educational sightseeing including Pearl Harbor, Honolulu Academy of Arts, and Hawaii’s Plantation Village.
What specific topics will be addressed ?
Workshops, presentations by scholars in the field, and focused classroom observations (Introduction to Social Studies, Asian History, European History, United States History, and Economics) will demonstrate how the Punahou Social Studies department meets the following learning goals for students:
 Learn the skills necessary for personal success in a rapidly-changing society; questioning, writing, reading, speaking, listening, discussing, researching, and those skills leading to computer literacy;
 Develop analytical strategies that promote fair-minded, logical and diverse points of view;
 Derive historical significance from events through an understanding of the impact of the past on the present and future.
 Respect a citizen’s rights and responsibilities and the methods by which governments function;
 Develop a sense of their unique cultural identities along with an appreciation of the diversity of mankind;
 Learn how to function as a positive, contributing member of society.
How will you demonstrate your learning?
Design and demonstrate, either individually or collaboratively with a team of participants, a mini lesson plan based on new ideas acquired during the workshop that would address specific needs of participating teachers’ classrooms.
